Cavalry officer. 2 letters to his wife, 7 Dec. 1863, 25 July 1864. In the first Johnson tells of the wounded and suffering he has seen, and hastens to assure his wife that he is unharmed. In the letter of 25 July 1864 he tells his wife that the "strength of the rebellion is crushed" and that the Union will be victorious; orders from J.M. Palmer directing Johnson to assume command of the 14th Army Corps.
